Former Manchester United winger Ryan Giggs has stated that he is confident that the likes of Michael Carrick can lead the club going into the new era under Louis van Gaal. The 13 time Premier league champions are widely expected to return to their best under Van Gaal, who has the experience of managing a top club unlike his predecessor David Moyes. The Dutchman, though, has been delaying the decision to name his new captain, as he wants to take a good look at the players. The decision is expected to come just a few days before the start of the campaign.

The horrendous season that Manchester United is going through is even affecting the chances of some players on getting noticed and being a candidate for representing their respective club for the 2014 World Cup.

Michael Carrick is a constant starter for David Moyes and his plans but his form has taken a sudden change, much like just about the rest of the entire team which are suffering from finding their best form. So far it has been either Wayne Rooney or Van Persie who have been the main driving force behind United’s last few positive results.

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick says that they still have a slim chance of making it to the top four this season despite the fact that they could not register a win against Fulham in their home turf and then ending up with a goal less draw against Arsenal at the Emirates. Michael Carrick’s ankle is in a poor condition currently and there are speculations that he might be ruled out for about 20 days. The midfielder hasn’t gone for the scan yet, but, the amount of swelling that he has on his ankle suggests that his injury is serious.

Manchester United have sorely missed Michael Carrick in the last few weeks. The midfielder suffered an ankle injury after the 1-0 win over Arsenal. He has been missing in the last few matches, which have contributed to the dip in form for United.

As a result, United find themselves outside the top four and increasingly away from the title race. However, manager David Moyes has confirmed that the player is close to returning to first-team action and he may have him back for the Christmas fixtures.

CONTRACT EXTENDED

Manchester United have managed to extend the contract of midfielder Michael Carrick by two more years along with the option of 12 months. The former Tottenham star was going to the end of his contract in a few months time.

However, there was no urgency on the part of the club because he has revealed on several occasions that he would stay at United. Carrick has been an important part of the United team over the last few years, but his stature has grown after the retirement of Paul Scholes.
