Old Trafford, Manchester

This was United's third game in Europe, and it coincided with their third win - an admirable record which puts United top of their group, needing just one point from any of their next three games in order to guarantee qualification.

This wasn't as much of a contest as Copenhagen would have hoped, Louis Saha alone could have had three goals, starting from the first twenty seconds, when he was put through by Michael Carrick, only to miss his one-on-one opportunity.

Cristiano Ronaldo was his usual live-wire self, with the Danish defenders runnign scared whenever he got a chance on the ball. Twice he cut inside and was left in a similar position to where he scored his goal against Reading, but just wasn't able to convert it with the final ball.

United were rarely troubled by Allback et al, and took the lead on 35 minutes with a typical Paul Scholes strike from distance. nited fans will be glad to see him back doing this after a while since his last few goals.

Carrick and O'Shea were able to dominate the midfield, and Patrice Evra managed to get forward often enough to help out the midfielders - he was on in place of Gabriel Heinze who is still recovering but might be ready for Liverpool.

The second goal came two minutes after half-time, with John O'Shea, possibly by accident, managing to knock the ball into his the net with the back of his standing foot!

The goals didn't get much better, with Kieran Ricardson's late strike squirming past the line after the ball was only half-caught by the goalie.

It wasn't the best football in the world, but was good enough, and leaves us with petrol in the tank for Sunday's match.
