manchester United gave up a chance to put the Champions League to bed with a bad loss against Copenhagen. Had fergie chosen to switch the team round in the next game, having guaranteed qualification this time round, United would be coasting it. As it is, United need to get a point or two from a tough match at Celtic Park.
With Neville, Giggs and Saha all ruled out with injuries, Fergie should have opted to keep the rest of the side the same, but instead opted to bring in Heinze, Silvestre and Brown in defence, and Fletcher and O'Shea in midfield. No wonder United were misfiring!
A scrappy game commenced, with the Danish minnows taking the first real opportunity at goal, but van der Sar saved comfortably.
The boys never really got their passing going, with Carrick missing the looming presence of Paul Scholes alongside him, and with the players practically frozen out on the poor quality pitch in minus temperatures!
Ronaldo was still full of running, as was Rooney, but without Saha upfront, United lacked a certain edge.
At half time Nemanja Vidic was pulled off with a slight tweak that Fergie didn't want to risk, so Ferdinand took his rightful place in the team. For once it wasn't rio who was lazy in defence, with Mickey Silvestre the man failing to clear on 73 minutes, leading to a goal-mouth scramble and a poked-home goal for Markus Alback.
United rallied, and Scholes should have equalised. Ronaldo had the ball in the back of the net with seconds to go, but was ruled off for offside, which kind of summed up the Reds' night.
