Wayne Rooney answered his critics in emphatic style against Bolton, with a well-timed and well-taken hatrick to secure three points against the team that were third in the league!
Bolton may well have been punching above their weight so far this season, but the fact that they had the tightest defence in the Premiership suggests that this result was an absolutely superb one for United and Sir Alex.
United sprinted out of the blocks, fired up from the very beginning, and had fielded their strongest team bar Gaby Heinze in defence. Few can cope with both Giggsy and Ronaldo running at them! A missed header by Giggs, and then a close-run shot by Louis Saha almost started the scoring in the first five minutes.
The United faithful didn't have to wait much longer - Michael Carrick played a delightfully weighted ball over the Bolton defence which Wayne Rooney obligingly smashed past keeper Jaskeleinen to end his goal-drought.
Gary Neville was the unlikely provider of the second, some 7 minutes later. Neville took the ball up the right and crossed in. Ben Haim failed to clear the ball and Rooney was abl to curl the ball to the back post, where the ball crept in.
United dominated the match, but were forced to wait until the last ten minutes for the next goal - a run by Louis Saha before the Frenchman unselfishly played the ball across to Cristiano Ronaldo who was able to sidefoot into the empty net.
Wayne Rooney completed his hatrick on 90 minutes with a lashed home strike from a Darren Fletcher long-ball.
Great game and great play by United.
